Applications are now being accepted for Zoo Services Associate in the Guest Services/Admissions Department at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. There are part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position to be filled at this time.
SUMMARY
This position promotes and fulfills the zoo’s mission by performing the front-line functions within the Guest Services unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Operate the historic carousel and facilitate the guest experience, including greeting visitors, answering questions, crown control and enforcing carousel rules and policies.
- Provides information and assistance to the public in person or on the phone included but not limited to zoo hours, prices/fees, regulations, programs, products, exhibits, special events, classes, directions, lost items and zoo animal collection.
- Promotes and sells zoo products through independent operation of cashiering duties such as opening and closing of tills, general ticket selling and taking, handling various forms of currency, operating manual cash registers and/or computerized point of sales terminals, and completing nightly paperwork and deposit.
- Assists with cleaning, stocking and inventory of retail and/or rental products.
- Greets and directs visitors at zoo entry and helps with crowd control.
- Rectifies visitor disputes, complaints and issues or passes to appropriate individual.
- Responds to various Guest Services unit duties, as needed, such as parking and traffic oversight, assisting guests and groups on grounds, leading tours, preparing grounds for special events, and assisting security during emergencies.
- Set-up tables, chairs, boxes of supplies, and other necessary equipment.
- Completes simple office clerical tasks, when directed.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area at all times.
- Assists with related special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to clearly communicate verbally. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
