Our diverse, professional IT organization is looking for a skilled Software
Architect to guide business units in planning for long range application systems
development.
As a Software Architect at REI you will contribute to REI’s success by defining
required hardware, software and infrastructure to support new systems. You will
also partner with Enterprise Architects to ensure integration of business line
systems planning with company-wide strategic systems planning.
Responsibilities and Deliverables:
* Conducts investigations into strategic development of new systems to meet
current and projected business needs for assigned business division, and makes
recommendations to senior Information Services management.
* Collaborates with Enterprise Architects to develop the technology "roadmap"
(Business Initiative Roadmap) for the assigned business, and to plan the
transition from the current architectural framework to the target architecture
of the future.
* Ensures that business-level planning integrates with corporate plans.
* Determines and documents the engineering decisions that constrain the design
and implementation of a system, such as selection of technology, design method
and programming language.
* Collaborates with business analysts, engineers and project managers on a wide
range of technology projects, including software development, package
installation and infrastructure upgrades and changes. Assists in gathering and
defining requirements and contributes to identification, specification and
recommendation of solution architectures. May work in multiple technical areas,
including processes, software, data, network and systems.
* For any given system implementation, analyzes system to identify functions and
relationships. Determines and documents system components, human interfaces,
logical layout and hardware interfaces. Determines and documents how system
architecture will fulfill its performance, reliability and security
requirements. Makes "build or buy" recommendations and develops prototype
architecture solutions.
* Provides technical guidance to ensure that installed systems are working
effectively and that proposed systems will meet organization’s future needs.
* May participate in development or act as a technical consultant on the most
complex problems and projects.
* May manage small projects or phases of a large, complex project.
* May act as a source for direction, training and guidance for less experienced
departmental staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent
training and experience.
5+ years systems architecture experience with large-scale, mission-critical
databases and applications.
In-depth knowledge of line of technical solutions for line of business
supported.
Knowledge of Microsoft technologies, process modeling, data modeling, network
architecture, operating systems, computing models and service orientation
architecture.
Proficiency in creating and executing implementation strategies of the most
complex systems.
Experience working for a large (5000+ employees) multi-channel retail company.
Proven success collaborating with others for the achievement of business goals.
Flexible in one’s viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction of
the business.
Developed skill-set using business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound
judgment in the solution of problems and the pursuit of business opportunities.
